Abstract:
The introductory article deals with the historiography and historical sources of the problem of coexistence of religious organizations and atheist state in the South of the Russia in 1920–1930s. The published sources characterize the Renovationist split in the South-West of the USSR, the organization of antichristmas and antipaskhal carnivals, the closing of churches in the 1930s, the history of the Old Believers' Donetsk-Don and Caucasian diocese of the Ancient Orthodox Church in 1940–1950s, and other unexplored questions.

Abstract:
The publication concerns the history of the Renovationist schism’s spreading in the South-West of the USSR, its institutionalization during the first All-Ukrainian Congress in Kiev in February 1923 and the role of the GPU in this process. There were published the documents, stored in the Central Archive of the FSB RF, including the report of the behind-the-scenes leader of the Renovationist congress, Boris Dikarev, to the GPU.

Abstract:
In 1923 there were organized “anti-Christmas” carnivals all over the country as a part of anti-religious propaganda. The articles in the newspapers “Sovetsky Yug” and “Trudovoy Don” allow following the background, process and the results of “Komsomol Christmas” in the Donskaya oblast. This action had hurt the feelings of the believers, but there were not registered any protests against this campaign.

Abstract:
The closing of the churches and prayer houses in the 1930s, along with the repression of the clergy became the final stage of the atheistic state formation declared by the Soviet Government. The documents from the funds of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, published for the first time, represent the applications of the believers and the representatives of the Church executive bodies into the various instances of the USSR about the illegal closing of the churches in the Don region. These sources give an idea of the non-observance of legality by the local authorities in their policy towards the religious organizations. They also show which methods were used while closing the churches, and the reaction of the parishioners’ action groups.

Abstract:
Introduced publication of the documents is dedicated to the Diocese of Donetsk, Don and Caucasus of Russian Old-Orthodox Church accepting Belokrinitsky hierarchy, which existed in 1947–1948 years. The documents, which were revealed in the State Archive of Rostov weren’t published earlier. In the introduction article and notes were used the documents of the Religious Cults Matters’ Council al the Council of People’s Commissars of USSR and his representatives in Rostov Oblast, Stalingrad Oblast, Astrakhan Oblast, Stavropol Krai and Krasnodar Krai, which are stored in the State Archive of the Russian Federation and State Archive of Volgograd Oblast. In the documents were reflected the changes in number and geography of the church parishes, deaneries and diocese’s borders, was showed internal church life. The episcopate’s autobiographies are testifying about difficult destiny of the Old-Believers clergy in USSR. Published documents are allowing to add our representation about Old-Believers’ history, about religious situation in the South of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, about the state and confessional policy in USSR in the middle of XX century.

The review analyzes the collections of documents on anti-church policy in the Don in 1920–1930s, which were published in 2013–2015. They talk about the seizure of the church property, the church split and the closing of churches and prayer houses. Compilers, L.V. Tabunshchikova and A.V. Shadrina, have discovered the hundred of sources, prepared for publication and added a carefully prepared scientific-reference apparatus. The Collections of documents represent a panorama of unstudied aspects of the Soviet policy implementation towards the Church in the Don region.

The review is devoted to the collection of documents and materials “Church Split in the Don region in 1920–1930”, published in 2015. The Compilers, L.V. Tabunshchikovа and A.V. Shadrina, identified and prepared for publication 260 documents, covering the period from the beginning of Renovationist (1922) and Gregorian (1925) splits up to their elimination in the Rostov region in the mid-1940s. The vast majority of documents have been published for the first time. They show that the GPU initiated Renovationist and Gregorian schisms in the Don. The compilers identified four diocesan Renovationist centers, the names of not only Renovationist and Gregorian, but also anti-Renovationist Don bishops.
